Choose a desk mat by its footprint and your working layout. The most useful size is the one that fits your keyboard and mouse while leaving room for the other things on your desk.
Quick comparison: DeskBoost mat sizes
| Product | Listed sizes | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Speed Work Mat | 70 × 30, 80 × 30, 90 × 40, 100 × 50 cm | The selector lists depth first, such as 30x70cm. Match both size and pictured style. |
| Large Desk Mat | Standard labels include 60 × 30, 80 × 40, 90 × 45, 120 × 60 cm | Some options use millimetres. Availability varies by colour; ask us about any unclear size label. |
Measure the usable space
- Put your keyboard, mouse and laptop or monitor where you normally use them.
- Measure the width from the left edge of your keyboard area to the furthest point reached by your mouse.
- Measure depth from the front of that work area to the nearest obstruction, such as a monitor base.
- Mark the candidate mat footprint with pieces of paper or removable tape, then try your normal workflow before ordering.
Use the clear desk area rather than the overall furniture dimensions. A wide desktop with a large monitor base may have less usable depth than expected. A mat should sit flat without hanging over the edge or interfering with desk controls.
A worked example
Suppose your usable work area is 85 cm wide and 38 cm deep after leaving room for the monitor base. An 80 × 30 cm mat fits within that rectangle, with 5 cm of width and 8 cm of depth left over in total. A 90 × 40 cm mat exceeds both measurements. This is a measurement example, not a universal recommendation: your mouse movement still needs to fit the smaller mat.
Depth can matter as much as width
A 30 cm-deep mat and a 40 cm-deep mat of similar width create different layouts. Check whether you want only the keyboard-and-mouse area on the mat, or also a stand base. Measure the combined footprint rather than choosing the largest option automatically.
Will your keyboard leave enough room for the mouse?
A mat can fit the desk but still be too narrow for your working area. Measure the keyboard body and the full left-to-right space used by your mouse, including the mouse itself. Add the gap you prefer between them and any outer margins.
Required width = keyboard width + mouse movement area + gap + outer margins. For a left-handed setup, mirror the layout; the same calculation applies. Do not substitute the keyboard's key count for a measurement.
| Illustrative measured layout | Width required | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| 36 cm keyboard + 25 cm mouse area + 3 cm gap + 4 cm total outer margins | 68 cm | A 60 cm mat is too narrow for this layout. A 70 cm mat leaves 2 cm spare width. |
| 44 cm keyboard + 28 cm mouse area + 3 cm gap + 4 cm total outer margins | 79 cm | A 70 cm mat is too narrow. An 80 cm mat leaves only 1 cm spare width. |
These are arithmetic examples, not measurements of a DeskBoost keyboard or recommended mouse allowances. Use your own measurements, check depth separately and rehearse with a paper outline. If the required width exceeds the clear desk width, change the layout before buying a larger mat.
The Speed Work Mat lists 30x70cm and 30x80cm options; the Large Desk Mat lists 600x300mm and 800x400mm options. A 70 × 30 cm and an 80 × 40 cm footprint differ in depth as well as width. Choose the exact style-and-size combination, then check availability.

Compare available work mats after checking both your working area and the desk. For narrow furniture, see the 80–100 cm desk fit examples.
Common questions
Does every colour come in every size?
No. Check the available combinations on the product page. The selected variant, image and price should match what you intend to buy.
Is 800 × 400 mm the same as 80 × 40 cm?
Yes. Divide millimetres by ten to convert to centimetres.
Should I choose a material based on the photo?
A photo alone cannot confirm thickness, coating or cleaning requirements. Ask us to confirm a specification if it matters to your choice.

Use inches? Convert both dimensions
Divide centimetres by 2.54 for inches. Approximate footprints are: 60 × 30 cm = 23.6 × 11.8 in; 70 × 30 cm = 27.6 × 11.8 in; 80 × 30 cm = 31.5 × 11.8 in; 80 × 40 cm = 31.5 × 15.7 in; 90 × 45 cm = 35.4 × 17.7 in. Use the listed metric size when ordering; the inch figures are rounded.
A quick fit calculation
Clear width minus mat width gives total spare width. Divide by two for each side of a centred mat. Calculate depth separately. For compact furniture, our 80–100 cm desk examples show how three mat widths change the space left beside them.
